common credit report errors

common credit report errors
Would you fix an error on your credit report if it was to your benefit?

I just pulled one of my credit reports. On it is an entry for a Walmart credit card that I do not have. I don’t think this is identity theft, since it indicates that it is being paid on time. Also, there is an address associated with my account that I have never lived at. I have a semi-common name, so I can see easily how this can happen. So, honestly, I really think this is an error. However, my credit really sucks and this is actually one of the few good entries I have. I am normally such an honest person, but I gotta ask…would you “fix” it or just let it be?

You must have only your credit history in your credit report. Your idenitity has been compromised and fraud is being committed. You are obligated to report it to Walmart and Credit reporting agencies. This postive might turn into big negative in the future. You have pulled your credit report and it can be proven that you knew about this fraud and identity theft and did nothing to stop it so you may be liable.
