How can I get a free credit report in Ontario Canada?
In Canada, unlike the US, you are entitled to as many free credit reports as you can order. The catch is that they have to be ordered by mail.
There are three (3) consumer credit reporting agencies in Canada, these are (in order of popularity) Equifax, Transunion and Experian (formerly Northern Credit). Most lenders use Equifax, with Transunion being a close second.
First you can request your credit report over the phone using an automated system provided by both companies. These systems will require you to enter your social insurance number and a valid credit card number (for verification, your credit card is not charged) and will require you to confirm various pieces of information on your credit report.
The process takes approximately 5 minutes and if successfull you should receive your credit report in approximately 2 weeks.
Equifax 1-800-465-7166
Transunion 1-800-663-9980
If you fail the automated verification with either company don’t worry. It’s not uncommon as most people are not sure what is on their credit report. You will simply have to apply for your credit report via mail (also free).
Simply download the credit report request form from the following websites;
http://www.equifax.com/EFX_Canada/consumer_information_centre/ownreport_e.html
http://www.transunion.ca/ca/personal/creditreport/consumerdisclosure/mail_en.page
http://www.creditbureau.ca/ENGLISH/your_file.htm
Fill in the form and attach a photocopy of your drivers licence (primary ID) and a credit card or recent utility bill in your name (secondary ID).
Mail the completed forms in and you should receive your credit report within 2-4 weeks.
Note that these credit reports will not include your credit “score” but you can figure it out for each agency by using your credit report to answer the questions at this website;

Which will give you an approximate FICO score.
Hope this was some help!
