credit report updated
Can an item be removed from my credit report if the verification date shows the item has not been updated?
The agency said they never received the letter. Then I received an “updated” credit report with investigation results. The dispute letter that showed the information had not been verified for 4 years. This implies the was no investigation.
If you sent a dispute to the credit bureau, and they responded with an updated credit report that still shows this negative information, then they did “verify” it with the creditor who posted it.
You need to understand how this game is played.
When you send a dispute to the credit bureau, they are required to “verify” the information. But all that involves is they contacting the creditor and asking if the listing is accurate. If the creditor says it is, then the listing stays. No proof is given, no investigation ever takes place.
What you have to do is “validate” the information. That means you must send a written request to the creditor demanding that they send you copies of the contract, bills, receipts, and everything they used to calculate what they claim you owe. This information must be supplied within 30 days, or they will be in violation of the Fair Debt Collections Act.
If they do not respond, then contact the credit bureau and send a copy of the validation letter. Inform them that the creditor failed to supply validation, and they must remove the listing.
If they still refuse to remove this listing, you can file a lawsuit in small claims court. It’s easy to do, and if you follow these procedures you will easily win.
