Of course a credit report will tell you a lot about a potential tenant! Judgments, collections, current & past addresses & employers, late payments, etc.
Also, landlord’s can answer any questions you ask, as long as the answers are truthful and factual, without getting into “a world of trouble”.
Your most important questions are to verify that the tenant lived there, how long, was rent paid on time, were there any lease violations or complaints …
