Collection Account on Credit Report: Midland?
Collection Account on Credit Report: I had a First Consumer National credit card back in 1997 or 1998. Due to their outrageous charges I closed the account. Now many years later (almost 10 yrs) after reviewing my credit report I discovered that I have a collection account reported by Midland for $1047. What can I do to remove this account from my report?
They are reporting this over and over to all three credit agencies with new dates.
Please HELP
First thing is don’t panic. Midland is a known scam collection agencie. This debt is well beyond most states SOL for taking legal action (unless it is for a judgment, in that case, some states allow it to be extended 10 years).
Here is a link to find your states SOL

Contact the CRA that is showing this debt and dispute it. Inform the CRA that you believe Midland has redated the debt in violation of [CITE: 15USC1681s-2] ยง 623. Responsibilities of furnishers of information to consumer reporting agencies
Send the dispute letter certified mail/return receipt. The CRA will then have 30 days to have the debt verified as valid, in which case, Midland will not be able to do so, then the CRA will remove it from your report.
